Plant-based diet pattern and incidence of colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men (13.5% of total cancer incidence) and the second in women (12.6% of total) in the European Union-28 (Globocan, 2012). Estimated mortality rates from colorectal cancer in EU-28 are 11.6% in men and 12.3% in women. Rates of this cancer increase with industrialisation and urbanisation. It has been much more common in high-income countries.
