Dr. Selin Bolca graduated in 2004 as master in Bioscience Engineering (Biotechnology) at Ghent University and obtained her PhD degree in Applied Biological Sciences in 2009 at the Department of Biochemical and Microbial Technology, Ghent University.
She performed several human intervention trials on the bioavailability of phytoestrogens from soy and hops. These studies revealed how the exposure to estrogenic compounds is strongly determined by the gut microbiome.
Next, Selin worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University. She gained expertise in next-generation sequencing while studying the health effects of dietary polyphenols through host-microbiota interactions. So far, Selin authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications.
