RULES & REGULATIONS
In 2010, Alpro Foundation will present for the third time two Awards for Master students:
The National Alpro Foundation Award for Master students consists of a €2,500 honorarium. This award is presented in 5 different EU countries (Belgium, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom & Ireland).
Among the five laureates, one thesis will be awarded with the European Alpro Foundation Award consisting of an additional honorarium of €2,500 (total of €5,000).
Art 1.: The Topic
The Alpro Foundation Award for Masters is given in recognition of an outstanding thesis regarding the Food and Nutrition and its impact on human health, the environment or the economy.
The topic has to be viewed in line with the scope of Alpro Foundation. Keywords of the MSc project: macronutrients, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals, fibers, fat, carbohydrates, protein, fruit, vegetables, pulses, beans, obesity, cardiovascular system, cancer, nutrition behaviours, food recommendations, bioactive plant compounds, .....
Art 2.: Frequency
The Alpro Foundation Award for Masters will be awarded every year but this can be reviewed by the Alpro Foundation Board.
Art 3.: Prize Money
National Award recipients receive a honorarium of 2,500 Euro and a certificate to commemorate their thesis. Additionally, the Award provides travel costs and hotel accommodations (up to two nights), to permit attendance at the academic session where the Award will be presented.
The European Award winner receives an additional honorarium of 2,500 Euro (thus a total of 5,000 Euro) and travel costs and hotel accommodations (up to two nights), to permit attendance at the academic session in Brussels where the Award will be presented.
Art 4.: Eligibility of Candidates
Master students at any university faculty in Belgium, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and United Kingdom, in any area of medicine and health sciences, biochemistry, nutrition, food or agricultural sciences, pharmacy or economics and who are preparing a literature review or research thesis.
Art 5.: Permission of the promoter
Before submission of their thesis to the competition, Master students should receive a written consent of their promoter to submit their work. This written consent should accompany the thesis at submission.
Art 6.: Language of the thesis
Master students can provide their thesis in English or in one of the national languages of the participating countries. The thesis should be accompanied with an English abstract of two A4 pages (single line spacing).
Art 7.: Submission
Master students can upload their thesis and an English abstract through the website http://www.alprofoundation.org/

Art 8.: Advisory board
In each country a National Scientific Advisory Board of minimum 3 members will review the thesis for the National Award. The National Scientific Advisory Board will elect the winner of the National Award. The chairpersons of the five national boards will review the dissertations of the National Award recipients based on the available English abstract and select the European winner.
Art 9.: Selection procedure
The National Alpro Foundation Award may only be awarded if at least three candidates per country have submitted their thesis. The jury reserves the right not to award the prize in case of an insufficient number of applications, insufficient quality of work or relevance of the topic. The nomination process and selection by the jury remains confidential and the decision of the jury is irrevocable. Decisions are made by a simple majority vote. In case of a tie, the chairpersons’ vote counts as two votes.
Art 10.: Presentation of Award
The National Alpro Foundation Award will be presented at an academic session in each country. The European Alpro Foundation Award will be presented at an academic session in Brussels. Recipients must be present to accept the Award and give a presentation on their research achievements.
Art 11.: Promotion of the Award
The Award winner authorizes “Alpro Foundation”, in the context of mediatisation of the Award, to communicate with the scientific community, the press (national and international), the local and EU authorities and the general public on his/her name and work.
Alpro‚ reserves the right to communicate its involvement in “Alpro Foundation” and therefore in the Alpro Foundation Award for Masters. The promotion of the Award will be independent from any product communication.
The Award winner promises to mention the Alpro Foundation Award for Masters in any communication and publication resulting from the awarded thesis.
Art 12.: The winner
It is understood that the winner accepts the present Rules and Regulations.

The Alpro Foundation was present at the IOF WCO-ECCEO10 in Florence.
On May 5th the Alpro Foundation held a symposium on plant-based nutrition and bone health.
